Sunshine Service, Inc., a nonprofit serving Sun City residents, announced the appointment of Robyn Bridgeo as its new executive director. Bridgeo succeeds longtime executive director Jim Sinclair, who is retiring after more than two decades at the helm of the organization.
Bridgeo brings more than 20 years of nonprofit executive leadership, fundraising and community engagement experience to Sunshine Service. His nonprofit experience includes serving as executive director of The Salvation Army in Caldwell, ID, where he received the 2022 Community Hero Award for bringing nonprofits together to meet the needs of the community during the COVID pandemic. He also served a mission in Uganda in 2022 drilling water wells and delivering clothes and materials for children who lost their parents to COVID.
“Robyn’s depth of experience and commitment to mission-driven leadership makes him an outstanding choice to lead Sunshine Service,” Paul Herrmann, board president of Sunshine Service, Inc., said “He understands how to honor an organization’s legacy while positioning it for a strong and sustainable future.”
Throughout his career, Bridgeo has demonstrated a track record in community outreach, marketing and nonprofit leadership. His background includes senior leadership roles focused on building community collaboration and public engagement across Arizona, Idaho, California and Ohio.
“I am truly honored to step into this role and to follow in the footsteps of Jim Sinclair,” Bridgeo said. “Sunshine Service has a remarkable history of service, compassion and community trust. I am excited to continue the strong traditions and legacy of this organization while working alongside the board, staff and community to ensure Sunshine Service remains an essential resource for Sun City residents.”
Founded to serve residents of Sun City, Sunshine Service, Inc. loans durable medical equipment at no cost to residents, helping thousands each year remain safely in their homes.

Sunshine Service began in 1961 under the leadership of
Reverend E. Duane Thistlethwaite, who chaired the
original Sunshine and Sick & Visiting Committee
of the Sun City Civic Association.
When he learned that residents were paying high fees to rent medical equipment, he led efforts to purchase affordable hospital beds and collect donated equipment. The first hospital bed and wheelchair were loaned on April 2, 1962, with equipment stored at his home. Reverend Thistlethwaite served as president until 1981, establishing the compassionate
mission that continues today.

Sunshine Service became an independent nonprofit in 1964. With generous support from the Del Webb Company and community volunteers, our first building opened in 1965. Continued growth led to expansions and our current location at 9980 W. Santa Fe Drive, now totaling 22,000+ square feet.
Today, our equipment inventory exceeds $1.6 million, helping Sun City residents save millions in medical equipment costs. In 2018 alone, residents saved over $2 million.
Sunshine Service has received local, state, and national recognition, including the George Washington Honor Medal for service to the sick and handicapped.

For over 60 years, Sunshine Service has remained committed to making life easier for Sun City residents by lending free medical equipment.
As our community grows, we will continue expanding our services, maintaining high-quality equipment, and ensuring that every resident has access to the support they need — today and in the years ahead.

SUN CITY, Ariz. - November 13, 2025 – After nearly three decades of dedicated service, Sunshine Service, Inc. announces the retirement of Executive Director Jim Sinclair, whose leadership and vision helped transform the organization into a vital community resource. Three years after Sinclair and his wife moved from Oklahoma in 1995, he joined the organization’s board of directors, helping to lead the nonprofit that loans durable medical equipment to Sun City residents. A short time later, Jim accepted the executive director role, which he has held for an impressive 24 years. Under Sinclair’s leadership, Sunshine Service expanded from a modest operation into a thriving organization featuring a large warehouse, an extensive inventory of medical equipment and 15 dedicated staff members. Through his leadership, the organization continues to meet the evolving needs of the community. Known and respected throughout Sun City, Sinclair became a familiar face at local events, welcoming new residents, celebrating returning ones and representing Sunshine Service with professionalism and compassion. Now 87, he looks forward to spending more time with his family and enjoying his favorite pastimes of golf and bowling. “Jim’s steady leadership and unwavering commitment have left an indelible mark on Sunshine Service and the community we serve,” said Donna Borden, Sunshine Service, Inc., board president. “His legacy of service, innovation, and kindness will continue to inspire us for many years to come.
